CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Miami track and field teams competed in the second day of the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Clemson’s Rock Norman Track and Field Complex on Friday as Deandra Doyley took home All-ACC honors with her runner-up finish in the long jump.

Doyley became the first Miami student-athlete to earn all-conference accolades at four championships since the Hurricanes joined the ACC prior to the 2005-05 academic year. Her second-place mark of 6.30m (20-08.00) was as season-best for the Lauderdale Lakes native. The senior will compete on Saturday in the triple jump.

Kristy Whyte ran the fastest time of any Miami runner this season in the prelims of the 100m dash and had the third-best time of the preliminary round with a time of 11.44 seconds. The Pembroke Pines native also advanced to the finals of the 200m dash with a time of 23.59 seconds.

Whyte will be joined in the 100m final by two other Hurricanes, junior Tarika Williams and sophomore Charlene Fuller. Williams came to Miami this season after transferring from Florissant Valley Community College. Both the Kingston, Jamaica native and Fuller advanced into the final with an identical time of 11.64 seconds.

Williams will also join Whyte in the 200m final after she advanced with time of 23.83 seconds. Tameka Jameson’s time of 23.67 seconds in her prelim heat ensured that `Canes three participants in both the 100 and 200m dashes.

Whyte won both the 100 and 200m dashes in 2008 on her way to being named the ACC Outdoor Track Performer of the Year. With wins in both events on Saturday, the senior would keep the ACC title Hurricane hands for the third straight season. Murielle Ahoure won both events in 2009.

Tameka Jameson was also impressive in the 400m dash prelims, running the fastest time of the day at 53.33 seconds – a new career-best for the Upper Marlboro, Md. native.

Juniors Ti’erra Brown and Takecia Jameson advanced to Saturday’s final in both the 100 and 400m hurdles. Brown finished with the top-time in the prelims in both races at 12.74 and 56.41 seconds respectively. Takecia Jameson moved on with times of 13.41 and 59.67 of her own.

In her second event of these championships, Miranda Wilson placed seventh in the shot put, reaching a career-best mark of 13.78m (45-02.50). Wilson placed eighth in the discus on Friday and will compete in the hammer throw on Saturday.

Megan Novinger, who has been steadily improving in the high jump every week, will be competing on Saturday. With her leap of 1.77m (5-09.75) last week at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, she moved into third-place in school history.

For the men, Devon Hill and Cory Nelms both performed well in the 110m hurdles, as each advanced to the finals, with preliminary times of 13.80 and 14.02 seconds. The time for both men would have been season-bests, but like most of the events on the day, a strong tailwind prevented personal and facility records to be broken.

Hill, the reigning ACC Champion in the 60m hurdles, also qualified for the finals in the 400m hurdles as he crossed the finish line in 52.25 seconds.

Jason Johnson placed seventh in the long jump, as he leapt 6.92m (22-08.50) – his second-best result of the season – earning two points for his team.

Travis Benjamin advanced to the 100m dash final with a 10.53 seconds. The Hurricanes DeMarcus Van Dyke and Lamar Miller, narrowly missed on advancing with times of 10.61 and 10.75 seconds.

At the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Saturday, April 10, the men’s 4×100 relay team ran the fastest time in 12 seasons, when they won the event in 40.15 seconds. The result was the third-best in program history and the football players that made up the squad are all looking to earn points for their squad on Saturday.
