Brown Advances to 60m Hurdle Final in School Record Time

March 13, 2010

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –  The University of Miami’s Ti’erra Brown set a new school record in the first day of action at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Friday evening at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center.

At 8.00 seconds, Brown broke Yolanda McCray’s 11 year-old school record in the 60m hurdles and advanced to the final, set for Saturday at 7:45 p.m. The two-time All-American also ran in the 400m dash prelims just 20 minutes after her hurdles run, where the Hampton, Va. native fell just two-tenths of a second shy of advancing to the final.

Deandra Doyley and Brittni Finch competed for the women in the long jump. Doyley reached a mark of 6.17m (20-03.00) for 13th place, while Finch finished two spots behind with a mark of 6.06m (19-10.75).

Doyley will compete in the triple jump on Saturday. The Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. native will look to improve upon her 20th-ranked mark of 12.91m (42-4.25) and finish among the top-eight in the event.

Ashley Dukes, the ACC Champion in the 60m dash, raced to a finish of 7.49 seconds in her preliminary heat, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the final.

For the men, Devon Hill ran a 7.83 second preliminary time in the 60m hurdles, just shy of advancing to the final heat on Saturday. The time was just four one-hundredths of a second off of his own school record – set two weeks earlier in the ACC Championships, where he claimed the conference title.
