BLACKSBURG, Va. – Four University of Miami track and field student athletes participated in the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier at the Rector Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Takecia Jameson defeated 19 other competitors in the 200m dash in a time of 24.04 seconds. The Upper Marlboro, Md. native also advanced to the semifinal of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.72 seconds in preliminary heat. In the semifinal, she narrowly missed moving on into the final, crossing the finish line in 8.62 seconds.

In the 400m dash, Tameka Jameson reached a new season-best as she placed second at 53.84 seconds. With the mark, she improved her seeding heading into next weekend’s NCAA Indoor National Championships.

In the long jump, sophomore Brittni Finch placed second, as she reached a mark of 6.09m (19-11.75). Finch, currently is the 19th-ranked woman in the event and will find out Monday evening if she will join teammate Deandra Doyley at the championships in Fayetteville, Ark.

Cory Nelms participated in the 60m hurdles and advanced into the finals with times of 7.97 seconds in the prelims and 7.90 seconds in the semifinal. In the final heat, the senior placed third with a time of 7.87 seconds.

The Hurricanes will head to the University of Arkansas next week as they take part in the NCAA Indoor National Championships March 12-13.
