Day One Complete at Kentucky Invite

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami track and field teams opened their 2010 indoor season at the Kentucky Invitational, held at the University of Kentucky’s Nutter Fieldhouse on Friday night.
Miranda Wilson made her return to the Hurricanes with a 17.00m (55-06.05) toss in the weight throw. Freshman Kyla Buckley reached a distance of 13.50m (44-03.50) in the same event.
Christina Madry leapt 11.41m (37-05.35) in the triple jump, for a ninth place finish.
The remainder of the field events will begin Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the running events starting promptly at 12:30 p.m.
The women’s team features three of the best hurdlers in the nation, in juniors Ti’erra Brown, Takecia Jameson and Tameka Jameson. All three won’t be competing in the hurdles in this meet, however, each will run a leg on the 4×400 relay. Both Brown and Takecia Jameson are scheduled to compete in the 400m run while Tameka Jameson will run the 800m.
At the 2009 NCAA Outdoor National Championships, Brown was the national runner-up in the 400-m hurdles and Tameka Jameson also ran in the final race, finishing ninth.
Senior Deandra Doyley, who advanced to the NCAA finals during the outdoor season, will be action in the long jump. In the 60m dash, senior Ashley Dukes and junior Tara Thomas will look to reach NCAA provisional status
Cory Nelms, now in his senior season, won the ACC 60m hurdles title in 2009 and will get back on the track in the 60m dash and will also run a leg in the 4×400 relay this weekend. ACC indoor and outdoor hurdle finalist Devon Hill will open the season in the 60m hurdles.
This weekend’s traveling squad will gain experience as freshmen from each team with be making their indoor collegiate debuts. Sean Petty, Garrett Nygren and Greg Kaczka for the men and Kyla Buckley and Allison Ludwick for the women.
The Hurricanes begin their indoor campaign at the Kentucky Invitational for the second consecutive season. Participating teams at the event include: Alabama, Auburn, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Georgia, Georgia Tech, host Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, UCF, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky.
