Miami Opens 2010 in Ohio Against RedHawks

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s basketball team will play its first game of 2010 when it travels to Oxford, Ohio to play the Miami University RedHawks at Millett Hall on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m.

After dropping only the second game of its season – to No. 17/22 Texas, Miami bounced back in a 44 point victory over UNF on Thursday. With the win the Hurricanes are off to their best start since the 2005-06 season – when they advanced to the WNIT.
Sophomore Riquna Williams has been the Atlantic Coast Conference’s leading scorer since the first game of the season and currently averages 23.2 points per contest. Fellow sophomore Shenise Johnson is the ACC’s third leading scorer at 17.7 points per outing and senior Diane Barnes has a team leading 9.8 rebounds per game – ranking second in the ACC.
A Look at the RedHawks
Miami (OH) is coming off their second win of the season after they defeated Eastern Illinois, 85-78 this past Wednesday at Millett Hall.
The RedHawks are led by Courtney Osborn who is averaging 19.3 points and 3.9 assists per game. Maggie Boyer and Rachel Hencke average 9.7 and 8.9 points per game respectively. Ashleigh Brown leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game.
Miami (OH) is averaging 66.9 points and 34.5 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 37.6 percent (275-732) from the floor, 29.8 percent (54-181) from beyond the arc and 76.0 percent (199-262) from the free throw line. The RedHawks also register 10.8 steals and 4.8 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 78.4 points per game and a shooting percentage of 44.8 (318-710).
