Hurricanes Top 3 Performers of the Week

Murielle Ahoure, senior, Track and Field

At the Virginia Tech Elite last Saturday, Ahoure collected 2 first place finishes in the 60-meter (7.21 sec.) and the 200-meter (23.26 sec.) events. Her 200-meter time was the second fastest in school history as well as her 60-meter time, which was just .04 seconds off of the school record she set last month (7.17 sec.). Ahoure’s outing earned her the ACC Performer of the Week Award for the second time this season.

 

Brittany Viola, junior, Swimming and Diving

This past Tuesday and Wednesday, Viola competed in the World Selection Camp in Columbus, Ohio. She placed first in the 1-meter platform (285.40) and second in the 10-meter platform (369.80). Her performance earned her a spot on the USA diving roster to compete in the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome this summer.

 

 

Shenise Johnson, freshman, Women’s Basketball

Johnson collected 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, all of which led the team, against ACC rival Florida State last Sunday. She also helped led the team in a come from behind victory against Virginia Tech this past Thursday, scoring 11 points. She was the lone Hurricane to score in doubles figures.
