Hurricanes Visit with Kids, Hold Final Practice on Sunday
Dec. 27, 2009
ORLANDO – The 14th-ranked University of Miami football team held its final bowl practice Sunday afternoon just hours after spending the morning with local children at DisneyQuest.
Players from all four teams participating in bowls operated by Florida Citrus Sports – Miami, Wisconsin, Penn State and LSU – spent the late morning hours with physically, emotionally and financially challenged kids at the nearby five-story arcade/gaming center. Select players also took part in a media session for both the Champs Sports Bowl and the Capital One Bowl.
“Anytime you go to a bowl game it is a great experience,” head coach Randy Shannon said. “Guys have fun when they go to bowls – meeting new people and new friends from other teams. That is the one thing that is great about bowl games – you get to meet other people from different parts of the country.”
After the event at DisneyQuest, the Hurricanes returned to their headquarters for lunch and meetings before heading off to their final practice at Thunder Field in the afternoon.
Miami spent just over an hour on the practice field, going through final preparations for the upcoming Champs Sports Bowl. For the third straight day in Orlando, the Hurricanes practiced under cloudy skies and cool conditions, with temperatures in the mid 50’s.
On Monday, the team will attend the Champs Sports Bowl Kickoff Luncheon at the Marriott World Resort Center. The Champs Sports Bowl Pep Rally will be held Monday night at 5 p.m. at the Bowl-a-Palooza FanFest at Pointe Orlando.
The 9-3 `Canes will be in search of the program’s first 10-win season since the 2003 season when they go up against the Badgers on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
