`Canes Continue Work With Bowl Game Just a Week Away
Dec. 22, 2009
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – With the Champs Sports Bowl now just a week away, the 14th-ranked University of Miami football team held its third bowl practice Tuesday morning at the Greentree Practice Fields.
The `Canes, preparing for their showdown with Wisconsin on Dec. 29 at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, spent about an hour-and-a-half on the practice fields with temperatures holding in the lower 60’s throughout the session.
“We’re staying sharp as a football team,” head coach Randy Shannon said. “A lot of good things happened today on both sides of the football as we’re starting to get back into game week.”
The team will hold one more practice session in Coral Gables on Wednesday before leaving for Orlando on Dec. 25. Once in Orlando, UM will hold three practices and take part in a number of events leading up to the game on Dec. 29.
“I’m very excited [about the Champs Sports Bowl],” sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris said. “This time I want to come out with a victory. Last year it kind of hurt to send the seniors out like that. This year we want to send this good class of seniors out with a bang.”
The Hurricanes opened bowl practice over the weekend, holding late-morning, early-afternoon sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
Miami’s match-up with Wisconsin on ESPN is seven days away.
