Rowing Concludes Fall Season at Rivanna Romp

Charlottesville, Va. – The University of Miami rowing team picked up three top 10 finishes on Sunday, concluding the fall season at the annual Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va. Racing for the event took place on the Rivanna Reservoir.
Miami began the day with a sixth place finish in the Women’s Varsity Eight, using the strength and speed of the “A” boat to post a time of 14:16.14. The Hurricanes used the crew of Katalin Horvath (bow), Stephanie Parrish (2), Lauren Cowie (3), Sarah Medland (4), Frida Schneider (5), Camilla Espana (6), Tara Eddings (7), Hannah McKay (stroke) and Christina Crocco (cox).
The “B” boat for the `Canes crossed at 14:43.07, finishing nine seconds ahead of the “A” boat from Old Dominion. Miami’s “B” boat crew consisted of Kate Rickers (bow), Lizzie Elner (2), Isabelle Prosser (3), Theresa Recicar (4), Emily Wingrove (5), Marie Serou (6), Monika Sajincic (7), Molly Thornton (stroke) and Heather Hollembeak (cox).
In Varsity Four action, the Hurricanes “B” crew raced its way to an eighth place finish with a finishing time of 15:52.29. The time was ahead of “B” crews from the University of Pennsylvania and Old Dominion, respectively. The Hurricanes used Stephanie Parrish (bow), Marie Serou (2), Lauren Cowie (3), Molly Thornton (stroke) and Shira Kharrazi (cox).
The Miami “A” boat rowed its way to a ninth place mark, finishing the race at 15:57.67. The UM crew was led by Tara Eddings (bow), Sarah Medland (2), Frida Schneider (3), Hannah McKay (stroke) and Christina Crocco (cox).
The `Canes also took part in Women’s 2x and 2- races on the day.
Miami’s Monica Sajincic (bow) and Katalin Horvath (stroke) took third place with a time of 16:13.84 in Women’s 2x action, while Emily Wingrove (bow) and Camilla Espana (stroke) finished second (17:14.33) in the Women’s 2- race.
The Hurricanes will now break for the remainder of the fall semester, continuing to practice and prepare for the spring season which begins in March 2010.
