Competed in her first season for UM after transferring from Louisville … Began her Miami career with the Varsity Four in a tri-race against Rochester and Dowling at home on the Indian Creek Waterway … Rowed stroke for UM as they earned the win with a time of 7:39.84 … Served stroke in a dual race against UConn as the crew earned a winning effort against the Huskies (7:11.93) as part of the Second Varsity Eight crew… Rowed seven-seat at the San Diego Crew Classic for the Second Varsity Eight boat that took part in the Women’s Collegiate JV “A” competing for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy … Crew finished with a third place time of 7:16.92 in the race, finishing ahead of boats from Kansas State and Sacramento State … Came back the next day for a finish ahead of Sacramento State in the finals … Rowed bow for the first time all season in the season finale event at the Aramark Sprints South/Central Regional Championships, helping the Varsity Eight crew along to the finals with a mark of 6:56.41 in their heat during the prelims … Helped team to secure a time of 6:37.25 during the “C” final … Served seven-seat for the 2V8+ crew that placed third at the ACC Championships in Tennessee … Rowed seven-seat again for the JV8+ crew which rowed their way to a third place time of 6:50.0 as part of the Women’s Erickson Cascade Cup.

Before Miami
Raced her freshman year (2007-08) at the university of Louisville … Spent most of her first collegiate spring racing season in the one-seat of the Cards’ 2nd Varsity 8+ boat … Key component in Louisville’s first-place finish in the 2V8+ Grand Final at the BIG EAST Championships … Also contributed to the Cards’ sixth-place finish in the 2V8+ Grand Final at the NCAA South/Central Region Sprints and the win over Stanford … Started the spring in the three-seat of the Cards’ Varsity 4+ boat in the win over Minnesota.

High School/Prep
Earned three years of rowing experience with the St. Catharines Rowing Club, the Ridley Boat Club and Ridley College … She earned gold medals in the youth eights and youth fours events at the 2005 Head of the Ohio, a gold medal in the women’s U17 Double at the 2004 Ontario Summer Games, and a third-place finish in the junior “B” women’s quads at the 2004 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta … While competing for the Canadian Junior National Development Team in 2005, she won silver in the eights event and bronze in the doubles event at the CanAmMex Camp in Oak Ridge, Tenn. … As a prep rower at Ridley, she won gold in the senior quads at both the 2006 and 2005 Canadian High School Rowing Championships, and silver in the junior 4+ race in 2004.

Born Katelyn Elizabeth Ruth Rickers in Hamilton, Ontario … Daughter of Don and Karen Rickers … Majoring in Sports Administration and Exercise Science … Post-college ambition is to attend graduate school and chiropractic school, to travel and to eventually start a family … Nickname is “Katers.”

Hobbies and outside interests include camping, guitar, piano, hanging with friends and laughing … Believes the best thing about UM rowing is walking into locker room at the crack of dawn every morning to see 30 of her best friends and teammates with smiles on their faces who are ready to work their hardest … Says her favorite rowing memory is winning the Senior Women’s Quad event in the last 500m at the Canadian Schoolboy Championships in 2006 … Lists a superstition as always being early to the starting line.
