Miami Rowers Travel to Rivanna Romp
Nov. 13, 2009
Coral Gables, Fla. – Under the direction of first-year head coach Andrew Carter, the University of Miami rowing team travels this weekend to the annual Rivanna Romp hosted by the University of Virginia at the Rivanna Reservoir in Charlottesville, Va. The event is a one-day regatta set for Sunday, Nov. 15 at 9 a.m.
Returning to the waters a week after a stellar performance at the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Hurricanes will be traveling to an event they are well-familiar with from years past.
The Rivanna Romp features top racing from a number of schools around the nation. It serves as the University of Virginia’s top fall regatta each season.
“We’re really looking forward to the racing at the University of Virginia,” remarked Carter. “Coach [Kevin] Sauer and his staff always put on a good regatta and, while the field is smaller than in previous years, the test will be a good one for our crews. We have the opportunity to race three programs we faced last weekend. So, we’ll have a good measuring stick for our boats.”
During last season’s Rivanna Romp, Miami’s Varsity 8+ “A” boat posted a ninth place time of 13:55.80 out of a field of 23 competitors. The “B” boat finished suit with a time of 15:13.01. Meanwhile, the Varsity 4+ boat had an impressive time of 15:15.47 in its race, finishing third overall against the field.
Results for this year’s races will be posted to the Hurricanes athletic website along with a recap of the event following the day’s final event.
