CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s basketball team travels to the West Coast to take on the UC Riverside Highlanders at the Student Recreation Center on Friday, November 13.  Tip-off is set for 10 p.m. EST.

The University of Miami women’s basketball team will be playing in their season opener as it faces the UC Riverside Highlanders at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside, Calif.

 

In the Hurricanes only preseason exhibition Shenise Johnson and Diane Barnes each recorded double-doubles in cruising to a 75-42 victory over Division II Barry at the BankUnited Center on Nov. 7.

 

Johnson, who was named to the ACC All-Freshman team and earned an All-ACC Honorable Mention nod, will lead the Hurricanes this season. Freshmen, Lee Anna Osei, Hannah Shaw, Morgan Stroman and Shanel Williams will be making their regular season collegiate debuts.

 

A Look at the Highlanders

UC Riverside will also be competing in its season opener on Friday evening. The Highlanders played one preseason exhibition, a 73-62 win over Cal Poly Pamona on Nov. 7.

 

The Highlanders are led by Amber Cox who is averaging 20.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Rhaya Neabors, Marissa Rivera and Rheya Neabors score 13.0, 12.0 and 10.0 points per game respectively.

 

UC Riverside is averaging 73.0 points and 38.0 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 50.0 percent (28-56) from the floor, 40.0 percent (8-20) from beyond the arc and 69.2 (9-13) from the free throw line. The Highlanders also register 12.0 steals and 4.0 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 62.0

points per game and a shooting percentage of 32.1 (17-53).
