Hurricanes Hoopfest Wednesday at the BankUnited Center

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s and women’s basketball teams will hold their second annual Hurricanes Hoopfest at the BankUnited Center from 7-9 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 21.
Doors open at 7 p.m. with the men’s team scrimmaging for 30 minutes, followed by a 30-minute practice session from the women’s basketball team. Fans will be able to purchase seats for the upcoming season and meet the teams during an autograph session.
Sixth-year head coach Frank Haith is back at the helm for the men’s team, who also returns a pair of starters and seven letterwinners. Two of the team’s top-three scorers in Dwayne Collins and James Dews are back for the Hurricanes and joined by a recruiting class ranked among the Top 25 by both ESPN and Scout.
Miami’s six newcomers in 2009-10 include Malcolm Grant, Reggie Johnson, Antoine Allen and ESPNU 100 picks Durand Scott, Garrius Adams and Donnavan Kirk.

Fans are also invited to join Coach Haith and the men’s team at the second annual University of Miami Men’s BasketBowl at Splitsville (5701 Sunset Drive, Suite 202, South Miami, FL 33143) on Tues., Nov. 10, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Lanes for up to six bowlers may be sponsored for $1,000. Tickets for guests are $75, while tickets for children 12 and under are $50. Admission includes food, beverage and a UM gift.
All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Miami men’s basketball program.

Miami will host an exhibition game at home at the BankUnited Center versus Florida Southern on Mon., Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m., before opening the regular season at home versus North Carolina Central on Sat., Nov. 14, at 4 p.m.
