Hurricanes Hoopfest set for Wednesday at the BankUnited Center

Oct. 19, 2009

The University of Miami men’s and women’s basketball teams will hold their second annual Hurricanes Hoopfest at the BankUnited Center from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Miami and head coach Katie Meier have their sights set on the postseason after bringing in yet another skilled recruiting class. Meier and her staff brought in McDonald’s All-American, Morgan Stroman – who joins sophomore Shenise Johnson as the first `Cane teammates to earn the highest high school honor.

Johnson will lead the Hurricanes after a tremendous freshman season, where she was named ACC All-Freshman, ACC Honorable Mention and was voted ACC Rookie of the Week on three occasions. Other Key returners will be seniors Charmaine Clark and Diane Banes, along with sophomore Riquna Williams.

This season’s recruiting class has an international flavor, as Hannah Shaw, Stefanie Yderstrom and Lee Anna Osei are from England, Sweden and Canada respectively. In addition, Stroman and Shanel Williams will look to make immediate impacts in their rookie campaigns.

Miami will host an exhibition game at home at the BankUnited Center versus Barry on Saturday, Nov. 7, at a time yet to be determined, before opening the regular season on the road with a two game road swing at UC Riverside and Cal State Bakersfield – Nov. 13th and 15th respectively.
