Three Hurricanes Named to ACC All-Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference has named three University of Miami student-athletes to the 2009 Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field All-ACC Academic Teams.

On the men’s team, sophomore Diego Rosado earned his first appearance on the squad.  The Albuquerque, N.M. native was the Hurricanes participant in the heptathlon throughout the season.  He also moved into third place in school history with a mark of 2.00m (6-10) in the high jump.  Rosado is currently seeking a degree in Philosophy.

For the women, senior Nene Kamate and junior Kristy Whyte were honored.

Whyte a junior Exercise Physiology major from Miami Lakes, advanced to the finals of the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where she finished with the ninth-best time of 23.91.  Whyte made her second straight appearance on the team.

Kamate, who graduated in May with a degree in Communications/International Relations from Jamaica, N.Y., competed in the 4×100 relay along with Whyte and posted a first round time of 44.44 seconds.

To be considered for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 for the most recent semester and for their careers.
