Ti'erra Brown Advances at USA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – University of Miami sophomore Ti’erra Brown and former Hurricanes Lauryn Williams and Dominique Darden all moved on to the semifinals of their respective events at the first day of the USA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.

After finishing her sophomore season with her second All-America nod, Brown advanced to Friday’s 400-meter hurdle semifinal after she raced to a time of 57.97 seconds in the opening round. The Hampton, Va. native was the NCAA runner-up in the event two weeks ago and will continue her push to represent the United States in the World Championships later this summer in Berlin.

Former Hurricane Lauryn Williams ran the win her heat in the first round of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 11.06. Williams will run in the semifinal round Friday at 7 p.m. While at Miami, Williams ran to nine All-America honors and won the NCAA National Championship in the 100-meter dash.

Darden, another former `Cane and Miami’s all-time leader with 15 All-America selections raced to a time of 52.33 seconds in the 400-meter dash. She will run in the semifinal Friday at 8:05 p.m.

Janet Price, the freshman from Tampa will compete in the 800-meter run in the USA Junior Championships, which will run simultaneously with the USA Championships. Price’s season-best time in the 800-meters is 2:12.50, she is scheduled to compete on June 27 at 5:20 p.m. in the first round.

Representing the men will be junior Mikese Morse, also from Tampa. Morse, competed in the US Olympic Trials in Eugene a year ago, returns to compete in the long jump. In his first season as a member of the Hurricanes, Morse broke the school record in the indoor long jump (7.90m, 25-11.00) and had a season-best mark of 7.62m (25-00.00) during the outdoor season.

Price and Morse will both begin competition on Saturday at 5:20 and 7:20 p.m. respectively.
