Four Current Hurricanes to Compete at USA Championships

CORAL GABLES – Four members of the University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams will be competing at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 25-28.
Leading a trio of women will be Ti’erra Brown, the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA National Championships on June 12. The Hampton, Va. native earned All-American status for the second time in only her sophomore season. She will be joined in the event by Tameka Jameson, the sophomore that placed ninth at the national championships.
Brown ran the fourth-best time of any American in 2009 in the 400-meter hurdle final at 55.98 seconds. Jameson is currently ranked 13th with a time of 56.65 seconds.
Former Hurricane Dominique Darden is scheduled to compete in the event as well. Darden, who is ranked seventh at 56.06 seconds, attended Miami from 2003-06 and accumulated a total of 15 All-America honors. Her 10 outdoor All-American accolades are the most by any Hurricane in school history. Darden is also scheduled to appear in the 400-meter dash.
The 400-meter hurdles will begin with the first round on June 25 at 7 p.m. EST. The semifinals are set for June 26 at 7:50 p.m. with the final, June 27 at 8:15 p.m.
The third current Hurricane to compete for the women will be Janet Price. The freshman from Tampa will compete in the 800-meter run in the USA Junior Championships, which will run simultaneously with the USA Championships. Price’s season-best time in the 800-meters is 2:12.50, she is scheduled to compete on June 27 at 5:20 p.m. in the first round.
Representing the men will be junior Mikese Morse, also from Tampa. Morse, competed in the US Olympic Trials in Eugene a year ago, returns to compete in the long jump. In his first season as a member of the Hurricanes, Morse broke the school record in the indoor long jump (7.90m, 25-11.00) and had a season-best mark of 7.62m (25-00.00) during the outdoor season.
Miami’s most decorated alumna, Lauryn Williams will compete in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. She currently has the fastest 200-meter time in the world in 2009 and fifth-best American time in the 100. Williams will begin competition June 25 with the 100-meter first round at 4:25 p.m.
