CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s track team enters the indoor season ranked No. 20 in the country according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) Division I Preseason Top-25 poll.
Now sophomores, Ti’erra Brown and Takecia Jameson return and look to build on their outstanding freshmen campaigns. Brown ran a season-best time of 8.31 while Jameson’s was 8.43 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Both Brown and Jameson earned All-American honors for their performances in the outdoor season in the 400-meter hurdles. Jameson also won two Junior World Championships in Poland over the summer, in the 400-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4×400 relay team.
New to Miami this season will be senior Murielle Ahoure, a transfer from George Mason. In 2007, she was named All-American after her performance in the 60-meter dash. Ahoure was also named the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s MVP after winning both the 60 and 200-meter championships.
Ahoure will be joined by junior Kristy White in leading the `Canes in the sprints this indoor season. White was a member of the 4×400 relay team that ran a season-best 3:36.19 last season and will look to build on her success of her 2008 outdoor season, where she won the ACC Most Valuable Performer after winning the 100 and 200-meter championships as well as the 4×400 relay at the conference championships.
The Hurricanes also return the reigning 400-meter National Champion in senior Krista Simkins, and All-American Viktoria Andonova in the high jump.
The Hurricanes open the 2009 indoor season with the UK Invitational in Lexington, Ky. Jan. 16-17.
