Atlanta, Ga. – University of Miami junior diver Reuben Ross earned a third place finish in the men’s 1-meter springboard finals on Friday afternoon in first round action of the 2008 Georgia Tech Diving Invitational at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center in Atlanta, Ga.

Ross, a two-time All-American for the Hurricanes and reigning National Champion in the 3-meter event, concluded the finals round with a score of 327.80. Florida State’s Terry Horner captured first place with a mark of 337.15. Auburn’s Kelly Marx finished in second place with a score of 333.45.

Horner narrowly edged Ross in the same event (350.75 – 344.35) earlier in the year during a tri-meet between the `Canes, FSU and Florida Gulf Coast.

The Regina, Saskatchewan (Canada) native led after the prelims, tallying a total score of 381.10–leading Horner who scored 377.05.

Friday’s event included the preliminaries and finals of the men’s 1-meter and women’s 3-meter springboard diving competition for teams from Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn and Miami.

A full slate of diving action in this year’s invitational continues on Saturday with 2008 National Champion and All-American Brittany Viola and Ross, alongside teammate and All-America performer J.J. Kinzbach, in the women’s 1-meter springboard and the men’s 3-meter springboard, respectively.

This will be Kinzbach’s first event since Oct. 4 where he finished third overall (325.00) in the 3-meter event.

Also expected in action for the Orange and Green are former ACC Diver of the Year (2005) senior Jenna Dreyer and freshman Kelci Bryant. Both divers have performed admirably in their previous events this year, including Dreyer’s winning score of 302.40 in the 1-meter event in the season-opener at home in Coral Gables.
