Former Hurricane Charles Advances to Long Jump Final

BEIJING, China – Former University of Miami track standout Tabia Charles finished in sixth place in the long jump qualifying round in the Beijing Games. Her leap of 6.61 meters (21-8.25) fell within the top 12 marks needed to advance.

Charles, representing Canada, earned eight All-American honors while at Miami (2004-06) including a national championship in the triple jump in 2006. This is her first Olympic games and she still stands as the school record holder in the indoor and outdoor triple jump and the indoor long jump.
