Women's Track and Field Duo Earn All-ACC Academic Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Kristy Whyte and Freshman Miranda Wilson are this season’s representatives for the University of Miami on the 2008 All-ACC Academic Women’s Track and Field Team, as announced by ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Whyte, an Exercise Physiology major, and Wilson and Undeclared Arts major are both first time honorees.
Whyte was named the 2008 Outdoor Track Performer of the Year for her performance at the ACC Championships. In Atlanta, the Pembroke Pines, Fla. native won both the 100 and 200-meters. She also was a member of the champion 4×100 and runner-up 4×400 relay teams.
In her first season, Wilson made an immediate impact in the throws, reaching a regional mark in the discus with a throw of 47.87m (156-09).
The 43-member team had 17 All-ACC performers as well as five NCAA All-Americans. There were 13 student-athletes who made repeat appearances on the team.
Virginia Tech led all conference schools with eight selections to the team. Boston College snagged six members, while five teams placed four student- athletes on the team, including; Florida State, Georgia Tech and North Carolina. Clemson, Maryland and Virginia each had three honorees while Duke, Wake Forest joined Miami with two selections. North Carolina State rounded out the team with one selection.
In 2007, Kaitlin Nazario was the lone honoree for the Hurricanes.
