Hurricanes Complete First Day of ACC Championships

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>ATLANTA– The No. 7 University of Miami women’s track and field team sits in eight place after the first day of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held on the campus of Georgia Tech at Griffin Track.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Only three student-athletes participated in the first of the three day event. Senior Khadija Talley and freshman Miranda Wilson competed in the hammer throw, where Talley, the reigning ACC Performer of the Week placed sixth, earning three points for the Hurricanes. Wilson came in 10th place in the event with a personal-best throw of 49.11m. Talley had her second best throw of the season at 55.14m.
Both Talley and Wilson will be competing again tomorrow as field event finish up on the second day of action. However, senior Kaitlin Nazario only competes in the javelin, and she came away with a sixth place finish in the final ACC event of her career. Her throw of 42.69m was the second best of her season, earning Miami another three points and a total of six on the day.
The 2008 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will continue on the campus of Georgia Tech on Friday.
