Viola, Ross Garner Third-Place Finishes Saturday in Auburn

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>AUBURN, Ala. – University of Miami sophomores Brittany Viola and Reuben Ross continued to impress at the 2008 NCAA Zone `B’ Diving Championships with a pair of third-place finishes on the second day of competition at the JamesE.MartinAquaticsCenter in Auburn, Ala.
Viola, after a seventh-place finish in the women’s one-meter event Friday, placed third in the three-meter competition Saturday, with a score of 294.25. Georgia’s Hannah Moore placed first in the event with a score of 324.85 while Tennessee’s Lauren Leroy came in second with a mark of 307.10.
Ross, a day after a second-place finish in the men’s three-meter competition, placed third in the men’s one-meter event with a score of 346.20. Georgia’s Christopher Colwill and FloridaState’s Terry Horner placed ahead of Ross with scores of 396.15 and 364.15 respectively.
UM’s third diver competing over the weekend, freshman J.J. Kinzbach, placed 17th in the one-meter event after a fourth place finish in the three-meter on Friday.
Hosted by AuburnUniversity, the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships is a three-day meet, bringing together the top divers from 25 colleges and universities from the southeastern United States.
The top 12 women and top 10 men from the weekend’s events will advance to the 2008 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The women’s championship is scheduled for March 20-22 in Columbus, Ohio, while the men’s is slated for March 27-29 in Federal Way, Wash.
The final day of competition will feature the men’s and women’s platform events Sunday with competition beginning at 12 p.m.
