Hurricanes Send Seven to National Championships

CORAL GABLES – The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami women’s track and field team will be well represented at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend as a total of seven athletes and one relay team will compete beginning Friday at the RandalTysonTrackCenter in Fayetteville, Ark.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The Hurricanes will be participating in a total of four events as they will face the nations best this weekend.
Junior Krista Simkins will lead the Hurricanes as the All-American enters the meet as the No. 7 performer in the NCAA in the 400-meter dash with a season’s-best time of 52.86.
Simkins is also a member of the `Canes 4×400-meter relay squad that ranks 11th in the NCAA. The foursome of Simkins, Takecia Jameson, Tameka Jameson and Ti’erra Brown come into nationals with a top-time of 3:36.19. The alternate for the team will be sophomore Kristy Whyte.
Senior Khadija Talley and junior Viktoria Andonova will represent the “U” in field events. Andonova is the 18th-ranked high jumper in the nation with a mark of 1.80m. No. 12 Talley will look to reach All-
American status in the weight throw, with her season’s best throw of 20.22m
The two-day NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships kick off Friday as the University of Arkansas will play host to the event for the ninth straight season.
