Hurricanes Welcome Three Track and Field Signees

CORAL GABLES  The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami’s women’s track head coach Amy Deem has announced that three student athletes have signed National Letters of Intent and will be joining the Hurricanes in 2008.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

The early signing group composed of jumpers Rachel Dupree (Atlanta, Ga.), Jennifer Estime (Miami, Fla.)  and Brittni Finch, (Centerville, Va.) will look to bring a proud tradition back to the ‘Canes. 

 

“We have always had a strong tradition in the jumps and with the signing of these student-athletes, will hopefully allow us to have success once again,” said Deem.

 

“The signing of these exceptional student-athletes is a compliment to assistant coach Hassaan Stamps.  His aggressive recruiting will do nothing but improve our program,” added Deem.

 

 

Women’s Newcomer Profiles

 

Rachel Dupree, Atlanta, Ga.

The MaysHigh School senior is ranked No. 3 in the nation in the high jump, the honor student was named Miss Mays ’08 and chose Miami because of the coaching staff and strong academics associated with the nursing program.

Personal Bests: 100-meter hurdles (14.7), Triple Jump (39-7), High Jump (5-8.75)

 

Jennifer Estime, Miami, Fla.

The Miami Southridge High School senior is the nation’s sixth ranked long jumper, holds a 3.667 GPA while being a part of the AP Laureate program at Southridge, her 734 hours of community service leads all students and maintained perfect attendance all four years of high school, the Southridge 2008 Hall of Fame nominee chose Miami because she wants to be part of the next hurricane storm to bring the ACC title back to Miami.

Personal Bests: Long Jump (19-0.00), Triple Jump (38-05.75), High Jump (5-02.00), 400-meters (56.0), 800-meters (2:14)

 

Brittni Finch, Centerville, Va.

The Centerville, Va. senior is the nation’s third ranked long jumper holds the Virginia State Indoor record in the event, 2006 Texas Relays long jump champion, third in the long jump at the 2007 Penn Relays, selected as the Washington Post’s Winter ’06 and ’07 All-Metro Athlete for track and field, chose Miami because she felt “The U” was like home, and for the extremely strong academics and the coaching staff and the student hosts made her feel she was already a part of the team.
