Hurricane Football Holds First Spring Practice

Feb. 26, 2008

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football team opened its 2008 spring practice schedule Tuesday, Feb. 26 with a two-hour afternoon session at the Greentree Practice Fields. The players practiced in helmets and shorts under the direction of head coach Randy Shannon in breezy conditions and temperatures in the low 80’s.

“Practice was good today,” Shannon said. “We went out there and didn’t have any illegal procedures from the offense, we didn’t have any fumbled snaps during the quarterback-center exchange and that was great.”

Eight freshmen and two transfers that are enrolled at the University of Miami this spring joined returning players and coaches as the team began preparation for the 2008 season.

“Defensively, we didn’t have any off-sides or encroachment,” Shannon added. “All around, it was a good day both offensively and defensively,”

The `Canes will participate in 13 more practices leading up to the spring game at the BankUnited CanesFest at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday, March 29. CanesFest will feature a spring game at 10 a.m., an autograph session, a question and answer period with head coach Randy Shannon as well as an opportunity to renew existing and purchase new season tickets. Gates open at 9 a.m. Parking and admission are free.

The Hurricanes will practice again on Wednesday at 3 p.m. All practices are closed to the public this spring with the exception of a scrimmage at Traz Powell Stadium Thursday, March 6 and the spring game on March 29.
