No. 9 UM To Take On No. 1 Stanford Friday Afternoon

MADISON, Wis. —The ninth-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to take on No. 1 Stanford in the quarterfinal round of the 2008 ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championships Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. ET at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Hurricanes (4-0) picked up an opening round win over No. 13 William & Mary, 4-1, Thursday while the Cardinal (2-0) enters today’s match having defeated No. 11 Baylor, 4-2, in the final match of the tournament’s last night.

The two schools met in the quarterfinal round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament last year where Stanford came away with a 4-1 win over the ‘Canes.

Miami’s last win over the ITA No. 1 team came in 2004 when the ‘Canes defeated Florida, 4-3, at the NCAA Regionals in Gainesville.
