Women's Track and Field Kicks-Off Indoor Season

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –

The 2008 women’s track and field team opens their indoor schedule at the <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Illinois in the Illinois Quad this Saturday.

Miami will be joining Texas and UCLA as well as host Illinois in Champaign for the meet.

 

The Hurricanes look to get off on the right foot, and will use a mix of accomplished veterans and talented newcomers to do so.

 

All-American juniors Ena Leufroy and Krista Simkins will provide a seasoned core to the squad.  Leufroy will run in the 800-meters and the 4000-meter distance medley relay, while Simkins will participate in the 200-meters.

 

Heralded freshmen Ti’erra Brown, Takecia and Tameka Jameson, and Miranda Wilson will be making their collegiate debuts.  Brown will be running in the 60-meter hurdles and in the 4X400-meters, she will be joined in those events by Takecia.  Another leg of the 4X400 will be Tameka.  Tameka will also run in the 4000-meter DMR.  Wilson will join senior Khadija Talley in the shot put and the weight throw.

 

Nene Kamate, a junior transfer from the University of Florida will also participate in the 4000-meter DMR.
