HURRICANES PRACTICE FOR FINAL TIME BEFORE SEASON OPENER

Aug. 30, 2007

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – The University of Miami football team conducted its final full-length preseason practice Thursday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields.

“The guys worked on getting crisp and sharp in what we’re trying to get done,” UM head coach Randy Shannon said about Thursday’s final workout. “We’ll be excited, and ready to play for the game Saturday.”

Miami worked in shells for the second straight day. The Hurricanes will have a brief walkthrough on Friday to conclude preparation for Saturday’s home opener against Marshall. Shannon was asked about the game plan for the Thundering Herd.

“You don’t hold back anything,” Shannon said. “You’re going to show everything to win the game. We’re going to try to win the game, so we’ll do whatever we have to.”

Marshall will be making their first trip to the Orange Bowl to face the Hurricanes. The Thundering Herd practiced on Thursday and will head south Friday. The Thundering Herd finished 5-7 a year ago and 4-4 in Conference USA.

“They do a good job,” Shannon said. “Coach (Mark) Snyder does a nice job. They were 4-2 in their last six games. They’re going to try to run the ball. They’re going to try to blitz us and cause negative plays to keep the game close. So you have to expect that, that’s what there going to try to do all year.”

The Hurricanes will conduct a Friday walkthrough before reporting to the team hotel later in the day.
