Coral Gables – Miami Hurricanes star defensive end Calais Campbell has been named a semi-finalist for the Lombardi Award and is on the new Hendricks Award midseason watch list.

Campbell is now one of 12 semifinalists for the 38th annual Lombardi Award, which is presented to the top lineman or linebacker in college football. He joins an illustrious list of star collegians, including Virginia’s Chris Long, Southern Cal’s Sam Baker and LSU’s Glenn Dorsey.

Campbell is also on the midseason watch list for the Hendricks Award, which goes to the top defensive end in college football and is named after the former Miami Hurricane All-American. Campbell joins 36 other defensive ends on the list, which will be shortened to five or six players in November.

Through seven games this season, Campbell ranks third on the Hurricanes with 56 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. Perhaps the most versatile defensive end in college football, Campbell also has one interception, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and even a pass reception on a fake field goal. He leads the team with 13 QB pressures.

Campbell, a fourth-year junior, is a 6-8, 280-pounder from Aurora, Colo.
