CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami has announced the appointment of Hassaan Stamps to the position of assistant coach with the Hurricane track and field programs.

Stamps, who will coach jumps and multi-events, comes to Miami following a one-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Vermont where he helped lead the Catamounts to their best indoor and outdoor conference finishes in recent history.

While at Vermont, Stamps helped the Catamounts to 17 school records and 22 All-New England and American East All-Conference accolades.

“I am humbled and extremely excited to have this opportunity to join one of the most storied track and field programs in the country,” said Stamps. “Coach Amy Deem is a proven winner and built this program from the ground up. I look forward to adding my intensity, excitement and technical knowledge to this staff to help continue our winning traditions.”

Prior to his stop at Vermont, Stamps served as an assistant coach at the California State-Los Angeles from 2003-05 where he oversaw the men’s and women’s multi-events, throws and sprints and hurdle efforts.

At Cal State L.A., Stamps saw student-athletes earned 14 All-American honors while the Golden Eagles’ April Brown was named the 2005 60-meter Indoor National Champion.

Stamps’ coaching career began at the University of Tennessee in 2002 following an impressive career as member of the Volunteer track and field team. A five-time All-American, he helped lead Tennessee to the 2001 NCAA Outdoor and 2002 NCAA Indoor National Championships and SEC Outdoor Conference Championships in 2001 and 2002.

A four-time All-SEC selection, he received Academic All-SEC recognition and received the SEC Scholar Athlete Award en route to earning a bachelor’s of science as a double major in sports management and psychology form Tennessee in 2003.

Stamps is a Level II certified USATF certified instructor with USA Track and Field and also holds Level II USATF certifications in sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps and combined events.
