Women's Tennis Sweeps Boston College, 7-0 in Re-Scheduled Match

Coral Gables, Fla. – The tenth-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team re-scheduled their match against ACC opponent Boston College this evening, and downed the Eagles 7-0 in a regular season finale today at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Hurricanes improved to 17-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play. Boston College fell to 5-15 on the season, and 0-10 in the ACC.
The match was rescheduled due to possible weather conditions that could have affected the match, originally set to take place tomorrow afternoon.
The Hurricanes captured the doubles point as No. 23 Audra Cohen and Laura Vallverdu held Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov to just one game, and captured the first doubles point at 8-1. Senior Audrey Banada and junior Gina Sabatino finished 8-2 over Brittany Delany and Gia Nafarrete, while juniors Romy Farah and Gina Sabatino teamed-up to capture the final doubles point, defeating Alina Sullivan and Lana Krasnopolsky, 8-5.
In singles play, junior Romy Farah took on Alina Sullivan at the No. 4 spot. The Boca Raton, Fla. native swept the first set, 6-0, as Sullivan was only able to register one game in the next set, with Seenauth finishing 6-1. Junior Gina Sabatino followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win as she took on Sarah Svoboda at the No. 6 slot.
No. 44 senior Audrey Banada, Miami’s all-time career singles leader, played her final regular season match in front of Hurricane fans as she defeated Lauren Cash, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 position, that clinched the match.
At the No. 1 singles spot, No. 1-ranked junior Audra Cohen captured the next point for Miami, as she defeated Lana Krasnopolsky, who could only post one game in both sets, to put the Hurricanes up 5-0 with a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Junior Caren Seenauth and Boston College’s Brittany Delaney took on each other at the No. 5 position. Seenauth took the first set 6-1. Delaney registered four games in the second set, but it was Seenauth who came out on top with the win at 6-4.
The final singles match saw No. 14 freshman Laura Vallverdu defeat sophomore Dasha Cherkasov in a close 7-5, 6-1 match at the No. 2 slot.
The Hurricanes return to action at the ACC Championships that will run Thursday, April 19th thru Sunday, April 22nd in Cary, N.C. Seedings for the tournament will be released on Monday.
