Coral Gables, Fla. – The eighth ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team swept the Crimson of Harvard University, 7-0 in non-conference action today despite a rain-delay at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Hurricanes improve 12-2 overall, extending their win streak to seven matches, while Harvard falls 1-8 on the season.

The day began early for the Hurricanes as the match started at 9 a.m. No. 30 ranked doubles team, Audra Cohen and Caren Seenauth, swept their opponent Elizabeth Brook and Vilsa Curto 8-0 at the No. 2 position. No. 3 doubles was forfeited by the visiting squad. Weather conditions caused the match to delay with No. 8 ranked duo Audrey Banada and Romy Farah already in the lead at 6-5 over Preethi Mukundan and Lena Litvak at the No. 1 position. Once the match resumed later in the day, Banada and Farah finished their opponent 8-5.

The rain-delay did not put a damper on any of the Miami players as singles got underway with Banada, Farah, Sabatino, and Wasilewski all moving up one spot from their usual singles positions topping all of their opponents, and No. 6 singles was forfeited by Harvard.

Freshman Claudia Wasilewski claimed the first singles victory of the match by blanking Rachel Gottlieb, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 position to put Miami in the lead at 3-0. The Boulogne, France native marked her first sweep of the season in singles play.

Junior Caren Seenauth then defeated Vilsa Curto, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 4 spot to clinch the match.

Junior Gina Sabatino topped her opponent Elizabeth Brook 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 slot.

Senior Audrey Banada, ranked No. 34, played the No. 1 spot for the first time on the season claiming a straight-set victory over Lena Litvak, 6-2, 6-4.

Junior Romy Farah moved up to the No 2 position and topped Preethi Munkundan, 6-2, 6-4 to end the day for Miami.

The Hurricanes return to action March 24 and 25 as they head out on the road for an ACC double-header. Miami will face No. 6 Georgia Tech on Saturday at noon, followed by a 10:30 a.m. match the following day to take on No. 7Clemson.
