Hurricanes Complete First Day at NCAA Indoor Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior Brenda Faluade’s second-place finish in the women’s long jump highlighted the first day of competition for the University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships held at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center.

Faluade’s mark of 6.48 meters (21-02.25 feet) was the second-best jump of the day and the second-best individual indoor mark in UM history. Faluade’s second-place finish garnered the Katy, Texas native indoor All-America honors for the fourth-consecutive season in the long jump.

Also competing in the long jump was senior Amy Seward who placed 12th with a mark of 6.07 meters (19-11.00 feet).

Senior Ginou Etienne qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 400-meters with a run of 53.17 – the seventh-fastest time of the day.

On the men’s side junior Tim Harris missed the finals of the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.22 which was the 15th-fastest time in Friday’s preliminaries.

In the men’s 60-meter hurdles prelims junior Lance Leggett placed 12th overall with a time of 7.82 missing the eight-man final cut.

Faluade will return Saturday to compete in the triple jump while Etienne takes to the finals of the 400 meters and junior Khadija Talley competes in the weight throw.
