TORRETTA, MIRA ON COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME BALLOT
March 8, 2007
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Former Hurricane star quarterbacks Gino Torretta and George Mira were among 75 players and eight coaches who comprise the 2007 Division I-A ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
The ballot was mailed this week to more than 12,000 members whose votes will be tabulated and submitted to the National Football Foundation’s Honors Court, which selects the class. The 2007 Hall of Fame Class will be announced in New York on May 9 and inducted on December 4.
Torretta earned unanimous first-team All-America honors in 1992 when he won the Heisman Trophy, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Maxwell Award and was named the Walter Camp Player of the Year. He led the Hurricanes to the 1991 national championship.
Mira was named first-team All-America in 1962 and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting that year. He broke nearly every Miami passing record and currently ranks eighth in school history in pass completions (368), passing yardage (4,633) and total offense (5,135).
