Coral Gables, Fla. – The ninth ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team took on No. 74 ranked Western Michigan and snapped the Broncos’ four-game win-streak, 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. With the win, the Hurricanes advance 8-2 overall, while Western Michigan falls 10-5 overall.

The day began early with doubles as Miami took to the board first at 1-0 with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. No. 8 ranked duo Audrey Banada and Romy Farah faced No. 56 Kerstin Pahl and captured an 8-0 sweep. Audra Cohen and Caren Seenauth posted an 8-3 win over Ashley Moccia and Noriko Saruta. The doubles duo are currently undefeated with a 5-0 overall mark at the No. 2 spot so far on the dual season.

At the No. 3 position, junior Romy Farah registered the first singles point for Miami when she defeated Priyanka Parekh 6-1, 6-1.

Now with 10 consecutive wins in dual singles play, No. 1 ranked junior Audra Cohen faced Carrie Jeanmaire at the No. 1 spot. Cohen outlasted her opponent 6-2, 6-0, to put the Hurricanes up 3-0.

After moving up one spot in the line-up to the No. 4 position, junior Gina Sabatino registered her fifth consecutive win in singles over Ashley Moccia, 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the match. So far on the dual season, this marks a 3-0 record at the No. 4 position for Sabatino.

Freshman Claudia Wasilewski stepped in at the No. 6 spot to claim a 6-1, 6-2 win over Milica Zivanovic.

The last two matches of the day saw Miami’s two seniors finish it out to capture wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots respectively. No. 26 Audrey Banada battled it out to post a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kerstin Pahl, while Emily Mowery defeated Ashley Moccia 6-1, 6-1.

The Hurricanes will open conference play at home when they step onto the courts to take on in-state rivals Florida State. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Admission is free to the public.
