Lane Added To Hurricane Coaching Staff

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem announced today that Todd Lane has been added to the Hurricane coaching staff. Lane will coach jumps and multi-events.

Lane comes to Miami from Ball State where he served two seasons as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs before being named interim head coach for women’s track and field this past August.

While at Ball State, Lane helped the Cardinals to a third-place finish at the 2006 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships and helped guide Jennifer McCoy to the heptathlon crown, All-MAC first-team honors and an eventual appearance in the NCAA Championships.

In addition, he guided Tamelca Lewis to first-team all-league honors and the conference title in the triple jump, as well as helping Yvonne Ferguson and Amber Williams to second team All-MAC accolades with runner-up finishes in the 400-meters and 100-meter hurdles, respectively.

At the 2006 MAC Indoor Championships, Lane helped Ball State to a second-place finish while guiding McCoy to a second-place finish in the pentathlon. In addition, he helped Williams to runner-up finishes in the 60-meters, 200-meters, and 60-meter hurdles, and Terri Abraham to runner-up finishes in the long jump and triple jump.

In his initial season at Ball State, Lane helped the Cardinals to a fourth-place finish at the MAC Indoor meet and a sixth-place finish at the outdoor conference championship. Four of his athletes advanced to the NCAA Regional Championships during the outdoor season.

Prior to joining the staff at Ball State, Lane served as head track and field coach at Georgia Southern for five years, where he oversaw the program from its inception in 1999.

In his final two seasons at Georgia Southern he led the Eagles to back-to-back runner-up finished at the Southern Conference Championships, had student-athletes win 16 Southern Conference indoor and outdoor titles, and was honored as the conference’s Coach of the Year both years.

Prior to Georgia Southern, Lane served as head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn.

Lane earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Luther College (Iowa) in 1995 and two master’s degrees from Georgia Southern, one in sport management in 1997 and a second in exercise science in 2005. He is a USATF Level I instructor and USATF Level II certified in the sprints/hurdles, jumps, throws and the multi-events.
