UM Claims Three Victories in Rain-Shortened Second Day of Fall Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Members of the University of Miami men’s tennis team were able to squeeze in singles victory and a pair of singles wins before rain postponed play at the second day of competition of the Hurricane Fall Invitational Saturday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
UM’s Barnabas Carrega defeated Georgia Sothern’s Gregory Bekkers 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5) while teammate J.C. Whitner fell to GSU’s Philip Prins 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-8) in a pair of matches originally scheduled for Friday but postponed to Saturday because of weather.
Miami picked up a pair of doubles victories in matches against North Florida as Josh Cohen and Luigi D’Agord upended Leonardo Gomes and Yuiti Lopes 8-1 and Vivek Subramanian and Barnabas Carrega defeated Matias Sigal and Ben Smith 8-2 before weather forced the postponement of the day’s events.
Miami’s postponed matches with North Florida will resume Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
