Hurricanes Ranked No. 1 In Nation

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team moved into a first-place tie with defending national champion Texas in this week’s Trackwire25 rankings release late Monday.
The No. 1 ranking is the first in school-history.
Miami was ranked second in last week’s rankings with 50 points but recorded 61 points this week after several strong performances at the 112th Penn Relays Carnival this past weekend.
The Hurricanes won three events including senior All-American Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) in the 400-hurdles (55.60), junior All-American Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ont.) in the triple jump (13.94m/45-09.00) and the 4×400-meter relay (3:27.85).
The relay of freshman All-American Krista Simkins (Wissahickon, Pa.), junior All-American Ginou Etienne (Miami Central), senior All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) and Darden posted the fastest time in the NCAA this year, the second fastest time in the world this outdoor season and the second fastest time in the 112 year history of the Penn Relays.
The Hurricanes have had 15 student-athletes record 27 NCAA Regional qualifying marks in 16 different events this season. The NCAA East Regional will be held, May 26-27, in Greensboro, N.C. The NCAA Championships will be June 7-10 in Sacramento, Calif.
Miami returns to action, May 12-13, at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
