Women's Track and Field Finishes Day One of ACC Championships

Winston-Salem, N.C. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team competed in the first day of the ACC Championships. Junior Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished the first day of the heptathlon by winning the 200 meters in 23.90. The time is an NCAA regional qualifying mark, a personal best for Seward and vaulted her into second place.
Seward also ran a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles, in a time of 14.39. She continued her day of personal bests by throwing a best 11.97m (39-03.25) in the shot which led to a personal best first day score of 3344 just 8 points behind leader Saskia Triesscheijn.
Khadija Talley (Benning, Ga.) put the Hurricanes on the board with a sixth place finish in the hammer throw, with a mark of 52.07m (170-10).
Also competing in the heptathlon was Debbie Estime. Her marks of 1.66m (5-05.25) in the high jump and 15.14 in the 100 hurdles led her to a ninth place standing after day one.
The Hurricanes stand in the ninth place after three events, having scored three points. Florida State and Virginia Tech are tied in first with 17 points.
The heptathlon concludes tomorrow morning with events starting at 11 am. Field events start at 2:00pm and preliminaries start at 3:15 pm. Live results are available at www.flashresults.com and final results will be posted on hurricanesports.com.
