Women's Track Ranked Second In The Nation

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track & field team moved up to No. 2 in the nation in the latest Trackwire25 rankings released Monday night. The ranking is the highest in school history.

Miami is coming off a strong performance at the Miami Elite Invitational this past weekend in which the Hurricanes recorded 12 NCAA regional qualifying marks. UM has recorded a total of 20 regional marks in 13 different events so far this season.

Eleven-time All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) ranks among the NCAA leaders in two events. A two-time ACC Performer of the Week this season, Greggs ranks third in the 400-meters (51.97) and eighth in the 200-meters (23.21).

The senior is also a member of the nation’s No. 1 ranked 4×400-meter relay (3:28.07) and the sixth-ranked 4×100-meter relay (44.13).

Also a member of both relays is 12-time All-American Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.). Darden, the reigning NCAA East Regional Champion, owns the second-fastest time in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles (55.27) this season, and has the 14th best time in the 100-meter hurdles (13.37).

Miami’s corps of jumpers continues to impress this season. Junior All-American Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) ranks No. 1 in the nation in the long jump (6.43 meters) and has the third best mark in the triple jump (13.90 meters).

Junior All-American Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ont.) ranks No. 2 in the nation in the triple jump (14.17 meters) and has the 14th best mark this season in the long jump (6.23 meters).

Other Hurricanes who rank in the top-10 in their respective events include junior All-American Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) who ranks fifth in the 800-meters (2:06.14), and sophomore Khadija Talley (Benning, Ga.) who ranks 10th in the nation in the discus (54.94 meters).

The Hurricanes travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, April 20-22. Miami will be going for its sixth consecutive conference outdoor title.
