Hurricanes Finish Friday Sessions at Texas Relays

Austin, Texas (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team competed the Friday sessions at the Texas Relays. Junior All-American Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) won the long jump with a mark of 6.43m (21-01.25). The jump is a personal best and the second longest in school history. With the mark Faluade qualifies for the NCAA East Regional Meet.
Akera Lathan (Miami, Fla.) won the B section of the shot put with a throw of 15.47m (50-09.25). The mark is a season best and qualifies her for the NCAA East Regional Meet. All-American Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ont.) finished fifth in the long jump, with a mark of 6.18m (20-03.50). Amy Seward (Virgina Beach, Va.) finished second in the B section of the long jump with a mark of 6.16m (20-02.50). Both Charles and Seward marks qualify them for the NCAA East Regional Meet.
The 4×400 relay team of Krista Simkins (Wissahickon, Pa.), Ginou Etienne (Miami, Fla.), Charlette Greggs (Miami, Fla.), and Ena Luefroy (Atlanta, Ga.) won their heat of the preliminaries in a time of 3:32.07 which is the fastest time of the season for the Hurricanes. They finished fourth in the preliminaries. The 4×100 relay team of Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.), Simkins, India Ransom (Largo, Md.) and Greggs won their heat of the preliminaries in 44.74. They finished 8th in the preliminaries and qualified for the NCAA East Regional with the performance. The finals for both events will be held tomorrow afternoon.
