No. 7 Miami Earns 5-2 Road Victory over No. 16 Wake Forest

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The seventh-ranked Hurricanes won four of six singles matches while sweeping all three doubles matches to knock off ACC rival No. 16 Wake Forest 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Leighton Tennis Stadium.
The win over the Demon Deacons (8-4, 1-2 ACC) gives Miami (13-3, 5-0 ACC) it’s 10th consecutive victory.
The Hurricanes opened the day by taking all three doubles matches.
On the No. 1 court, UM’s 10th-ranked tandem of Melissa Applebaum and Audra Cohen downed Wake Forest’s 20th-ranked duo of Alex Hirsch and Ashlee Davis 8-4. At the No. 2 spot, the Hurricanes’ 45th-ranked team of Audrey Banada and Monika Dancevic defeated Ana Jerman and Christian Tara 8-6 while Caren Seenauth and Patricia Starzyk upended Sierra Poske and Christine Simpson 8-3 at the No. 3 position.
In singles, UM’s Cohen, who is ranked No. 3 nationally, defeated No. 43 Hirsch 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot to improve to 19-0 this season.
Playing in the No. 2 position, Dancevic upset No. 64 Davis in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Eighty-third ranked Banada downed the Demon Deacon’s Jenna Loeb 6-0, 6-7, 6-4 in the No. 5 slot and Seenauth defeated Poske 6-4, 6-4 for UM’s fourth and fifth point of the day.
The Hurricanes return to action Sunday, traveling to Raleigh, N.C. to face No. 50 NC State at 12 noon.
