Hurricanes Travel to North Carolina for Pair of ACC Matches

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The seventh ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team heads to the state of North Carolina this weekend for a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference matches against No. 16 Wake Forest and No. 50 NC State. The Hurricanes will take on the Demon Deacons Saturday at noon, before facing the Wolfpack at the same time the following day.

Miami returns to action after claiming a 7-0 sweep over No. 45 Denver in a mid-week non-conference matchup. With the win over the Pioneers, the Hurricanes improved to 12-3 overall and extended their win streak to nine matches. They head into conference action this weekend with an ACC leading 4-0 mark.

The Hurricanes have three ranked players and two ranked doubles teams in their lineup, headlined by sophomore Audra Cohen who is ranked third in the nation in singles. Cohen is 18-0 overall and 9-0 against nationally ranked opponents. Also ranked are junior Audrey Banada (No. 83) and senior Melissa Applebaum (No. 102). Both are likewise part of nationally ranked doubles teams.

Cohen and Applebaum pair-up as the nation’s 10th ranked doubles tandem. They are 9-0 since joining at the No. 1 slot, including a 4-0 mark against nationally ranked opponents. Banada joins freshman Monika Dancevic as the 45th ranked pair in the country with a 7-1 mark at the No. 2 position.

Scouting the Demon Deacons:
The Hurricanes head to Winston-Salem to face a Wake Forest squad that is ranked 16th in the country with an 8-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in ACC play. The Demon Deacons are coming of a 5-2 victory over William & Mary last weekend.

Wake Forest boasts three ranked players in its lineup including No. 43 Alexandra Hirsch, who is 9-2 at the No. 1 slot, No. 64 Ashlee Davis and No. 106 Ana Jenman. Hirsch and Davis pair up at the nation’s 20th ranked duo. They are 4-2 at the No. 1 position.

Last season, the Hurricanes downed Wake Forest, 6-1 in Coral Gables. Miami leads the all-time series 7-1.

Scouting the Wolfpack:
NC State will host Florida State before welcoming Miami to Raleigh Sunday afternoon. The 50th ranked Wolfpack is 11-4 overall and 0-3 in ACC play.

The Wolfpack has two ranked players in Barbara Orlay (No. 118) and freshman Shona Lee comes (No. 123). Orlay holds an 8-5 record, while Lee stands at 7-4.

Last time both teams met, the Hurricanes claimed a 7-0 victory in Coral Gables. Miami leads the all-time series, 3-0.
