CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 10th ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team will open Atlantic Coast Conference play against in-state rival Florida State Friday, March 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Seminoles’ Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes (6-3), who have won three matches in a row, return to action fresh off a 4-3 upset victory over No. 3 Texas last Sunday.
Sophomore Audra Cohen headlines the Hurricanes with a 12-0 record in dual-match play. Cohen was named the ACC Co-Performer of the Week on Monday for her efforts in Miami’s victories over No. 22 Kentucky and Texas last week.
Cohen pairs up with senior Melissa Applebaum to become the nation’s No. 22 ranked doubles tandem. The pair has won five-straight matches since joining at the No. 1 doubles position.
Miami will face a Florida State squad that also opens its ACC Season Friday. The 56th ranked Seminoles recently suffered a 5-2 loss to No. 41 FIU last week that dropped their record to 7-3 overall. Florida State suffered another blow when its top player, Carolin Walter announced last week that she will not play this season.
The Seminoles are led by two underclassmen at the top two singles positions and by Nicole Slater who owns a 7-2 dual record playing at the No. 4 slot. Slater has won five-straight matches.
The Hurricanes lead the all-time series, 19-2, with Miami claiming a 5-2 victory last season.
