Women's Track in Field in Fourth Place after Second Day of ACC Indoor Championships

(hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team finished the second day of the ACC Indoor Championships. Tabia Charles led a quartet of Hurricane long jumpers finishing second in the event. Her mark of 6.52m (21-04.75) automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships, and breaks her own school record. It also earns her All-ACC distinction in the event.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Brenda Faluade finished fourth in the event with a jump of 6.26m (20-06.50). Amy Seward, fresh off her second place finish in the heptathlon finished fifth with a jump of 6.11m (20-00.50). Both of those jumps are NCAA provisional marks. Chinela Davis rounded out the Hurricane scoring by finishing seventh with a jump of 5.97m (19-07.00).
Several Hurricanes qualified during preliminaries for finals that will be held tomorrow. Melanie Schultz qualified for in the mile. Dominique Darden and Pavi’Elle James both qualified in the 60HH. Darden’s mark of 8.36 is an NCAA provisional mark. Darden also qualified in the 200 meters along with Charlette Greggs. Greggs’ time of 23.72 is an NCAA provisional standard.
Ginou Etienne, along with Krista Simkins, qualified for finals in the 400 meters, in an NCAA provisional standard time of 54.10. In the 60 meter dash, India Ransom and Davis qualified for finals, with Ransom running an NCAA provision standard of 7.44.
Host Virginia Tech leads after six events, scoring 44 points. Miami stands in fourth place with 27 points, two behind FloridaState.
The ACC Indoor Championships will conclude tomorrow afternoon after a day of finals in all events. The day will begin with the mile and end with the 4×400 relay. Full results will be posted after the conclusion of the meet. Live stats can be found here.
