2005 All-ACC Academic Women's Cross Country Team Announced

Coral Gables, Fla. – Senior Melanie Schultz earned a spot on the 2005 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women’s Cross Country Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Schultz, a Marine Science-Biology major, earned a 3.47 grade point average this semester and has a cumulative average of 3.61 during her academic career.
In cross country, Schultz was an All-South Region selection the last two seasons and she placed fourth at the 2005 NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships to become the first Hurricane in school-history to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She also finished 15th at the 2005 ACC Cross Country Championships with a time of 19:56.1, becoming the first Hurricane woman to run a sub-20 minute time over six kilometers.
In her track career, Schultz was the first woman in UM history to qualify for NCAA Regional competition in a distance event. She also finished fourth in the 1,500-meters (4:26.03) and fifth in the 5,000-meters (16:44.10) at the 2005 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships setting school-records and NCAA Regional qualifying marks in both events.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
