THIS WEEK’S GAME:

Fresh off a 36-30 victory in three overtimes over Clemson, the Miami Hurricanes will host the ColoradoBuffaloes in their home opener at 12:00 noon Saturday at the Orange Bowl. Miami is now 1-1 and ranked12th in the polls. It is the latest home opener for the Hurricanes since 1990. The last loss in a home openerwas Sept. 13, 1997, a 23-12 loss to Arizona State.

Colorado is 2-0 this season, having defeated Colorado State and New Mexico State. The two schoolshave played seven times with Colorado leading the series 5-2. They have not played since 1993, whenMiami won a thriller 35-29 on the road, and this is the first game between the two teams in the OrangeBowl since 1975. The Buffaloes are the first non-ranked opponent Miami has faced this year, and this isUM’s first of three non-conference games this season.

In their thrilling victory at Clemson, the Hurricanes scored in all three overtime periods. For the game,Tyrone Moss scored three touchdowns and rushed for 139 yards on a career-high 31 carries. QB KyleWright, getting his first victory in his second start, completed 16 of 26 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown.Wright directed seven scoring drives in the game, including on all three possessions in overtime.For the season, Moss has two 100-yard games and a total of 241 rushing yards. That is the best start fora Miami running back since Frank Gore rushed for 245 yards in the first two games of the 2003 season.Defensively, the Hurricanes rank 17th in the country. UM ranks 11th in defensive passing efficiencyand 28th in run defense.

MIAMI-COLORADO SERIES HIGHLIGHTS

Miami trails Colorado in the all-time series, 2-5, but won its last meeting with the Buffaloes, 35-29, inBoulder on Sept. 25, 1993. The Hurricanes built a 35-15 lead with a little more than eight minutes remainingin the fourth quarter on a 123-yard performance by Donnell Bennett before CU quarterback Kordell Stewartand receiver Charles Johnson led a late surge to bring the Buffs within 35-29 with five minutes remaining inthe game. Warren Sapp and the Hurricanes defense thwarted the comeback attempt, which ended whenStewart’s fourth down pass to Johnson fell incomplete with 12 seconds remaining in the game.
The Hurricanes’ other win in the series also came in Boulder with a 24-3 season-opening victory on Sept.17, 1966.
This will be the third time the teams have met in Miami, with Colorado winning the previous matchups, 9-7 in the first meeting between the Hurricanes and Buffaloes on Oct. 13, 1961, and a 23-10 loss on Oct. 10,1975.
UM and Colorado have met once in the postseason, with the Buffaloes coming out on top 31-21 in theAstro-Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston on Dec. 28, 1967.
