Hurricanes Return to Practice Field

March 28, 2005

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – The Miami Hurricanes returned to the Greentree Practice Fields today, as they began their third week of spring practice leading up to the annual spring game a week from Saturday.

“It was good today to get back into it,” said head coach Larry Coker, after the team had taken off the last three days following last Thursday’s night practice at Miami-Dade North. “We got to some good work done today and spent some extra time in the film room looking at Thursday’s practice, looking at it and making corrections.”

With seven practice sessions completed, the team has eight remaining, including the spring game on April 9 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. “I just told our team we have two weeks left, and we have to get a lot done in two weeks,” Coker said. “I think the quarterbacks do a nice job when they get the opportunity. I saw some other things I was excited about, like the moves of (tight end) Chris Zellner and (fullback) James Bryant to offense. Both players have potential. (Running back) Derron Thomas has shown sometimes he can really help us.” The team also took a look for the first time at redshirt freshman Tyrone Byrd as a center.

This week’s practice schedule is: 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Greentree Practice Fields. All practices are open to the public.
