Miami to Push Back the Clock with Throwback Uniforms vs. North Carolina

Oct. 4, 2005

Coral Gables, Fla. (www. hurricanesports.com) – – The University of Miami will honor its past by donning replicas of the program’s 1967 uniform against the University of North Carolina on October 29 in the Orange Bowl. Hurricanes and college football fans will also have the opportunity to purchase the authentic throwback uniforms in an online auction at www.hurricanesports.com beginning on Monday, October 31. University of Miami Athletics’ Living Scholars and Golden Canes will have first priority to purchase the throwback uniforms before the auction takes place.

For the North Carolina game, Miami’s current white helmets with the orange and green “U” will be replaced with a gold helmet graced with two hurricane warning flags on each side and a green stripe down the middle. Kelly green jerseys with white numbering and cuffs will be complemented with gold pants adorned with three vertical stripes (green-white-green) down the sides.

The 1967 team, led by College Football and NFL Hall-of-Fame defensive back Ted Hendricks, played a large part in making the 1960s a prosperous decade in UM Football. Head coach Charlie Tate directed the 1967 Hurricanes to victories over Louisiana State, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and Florida on their way to a 7-4 record.

The current Hurricanes will honor that team by wearing throwback uniforms for the first time in UM’s history.
